- Dungeon Poker is a unique board game, which combines Texas Hold’em poker with the most intriguing elements of a fantasy world and role playing games. Scroll down to read more about the game.
In Dungeon Poker, the players participate in a poker tournament with their own distinctive player characters. Each character has their own archetypal special abilities that they can use to shape the game. During the game, the players encounter monsters, discover treasures, and use a variety of mystical magic items. The players must also constantly adapt to changing conditions when the blind levels change.
There are 16 different player characters in the game, from which the players choose their own in the beginning of the game, partially at random. With the special abilities of their characters, the players may influence the deal and improve their own chances. Some abilities are permanent, however, using the majority of abilities is limited, as they drain the inner power of the characters represented by the valuable Soul Gems. For example, the mining magnate Sir Nobble has the special ability of having a slightly bigger bag of gold right from the beginning – maybe also at the end. On the other hand, when you truly annoy the Cave Troll, she may swing her great club and knock out other players. When she does so, even possible pocket aces that an opponent has are neatly discarded.
In Dungeon Poker, you will encounter many familiar monsters from a fantasy world, from mighty Dragons to bloodthirsty Orcs. Some of the monsters are completely unique, abominations that you may only meet in the world of Dungeon Poker. The monsters join the game randomly and function as an extra player, therefore affecting the decision-making and odds of the other players. Many monsters also have special abilities that affect the ongoing deal.
Winning the pots is even more important and exciting in Dungeon Poker than in normal poker. This is because there is usually a treasure in each pot that the players also fight over. By collecting enough treasures, you may even win the whole game. The treasures may contain gold, magic items that make the player stronger, or the extremely important Soul Gems, which represent the inner strength of the characters that the players may utilize for their special abilities. However, sometimes there might be nasty surprises lurking among the treasures.
As the game progresses, the blind levels rise just as in a regular poker tournament. The difference here is that in Dungeon Poker, as the blind levels rise the game mechanics also change a bit, due to the encounter card that is drawn in the beginning of each level. The encounter cards change the game both thematically and technically. This challenges the players to adjust their poker style to match each situation.
There are also many elements that have not been described here. Together, all of these mean a game, where the immersion in the fantasy world is combined with the mechanics of poker and the intensifying mood of a poker tournament. This game brings a fantasy theme, many new strategic choices, and also spices up the poker table by adding some random elements. Dungeon Poker is a completely new and one-of-a-kind game not seen before in the genre of board games. Gather your courage and step into the exciting world of Dungeon Poker!
