Dungeon Poker

The first day at the Lautapelaamaan-event yesterday in Helsinki. Rauli presented the game!

We played one full game with four players, and one shorter game after that just to have a little demonstration on what the game is all about. The most amazing and wild deal was played in the second game.

Read the recounting of the events by the Rogue who fled the deal:

The blind levels were 200, and right at the preflop the Paladin next to me called forth the power of the Holy avenger (Special Ability: the Paladin gets all the burn cards for himself in flop, turn, and river) and raised to five hundred. Easy call, holding a pair of pocket aces. The Cave Troll also entered the pot, as well as the Druid and the Fighter.

The flop was A 7 3. With three aces, I followed the conventional wisdom and bet a thousand, so that those hunting for straights would be intimidated and leave. Well, it did not quite work that way. The Cave Troll paid happily, and twirled her club, looking angry. The Druid grew her garden (Special Ability: two new shared cards ‘grow’ to the table) and paid. -/> the cards that grew were 3 and 8. The Fighter focused on Melee mastery (Special Ability: the Fighter gets one extra card from the deck) and paid. The Paladin also paid, trusting in the power of the Holy avenger.

The turn was J. I checked to keep the Cave Troll tranquil, but it did not help: the club swinged anyway (Special Ability: everyone, including the Troll, must fold their hand cards to the graveyard and receive two from the deck to replace them), and the Troll bet 1500. The Druid did not get scared, but grew her garden once again, and paid. The Fighter apparently got something, and paid. The Paladin also paid.

The situation was getting extremely wild, and the table had eight shared cards and my pocket aces had switched to a two and a nine,. No possibility for a straight and even that would not be enough. At this moment, I decided to rob the pot and run as fast as I can, after all, I was the Rogue (Special Ability: the Rogue robs half of the pot (max 3000) and the treasure in this pot). The Treasure was an Empty Chest, but at least I got away from the mayhem with some winnings.

The game continued equally wild on the River, the bets rose and eventually the Druid transformed into a bear (Special Ability: the Druid folds her cards and gets three new to replace them, but she may not look at them herself). As the bear growled with all its three hidden cards, even the rest ran away.

As she regained her senses, the Druid did not quite get what had happened, but she had in front of herself a huge pile of gold and diamonds, and no one else was to be seen.

After that, the next deals went much more calmly. 😃

The abovementioned deal may sound a bit chaotic, but it is worth noting that for example the Troll’s club may swing only twice per game on the average of the whole game. This means that the special abilities are quite limited, most of the deals are played without them. The deal nevertheless represents Dungeon Poker at its best. 😉

More today! Dungeon Poker is available in the Lautapelaamaan-event from 1 pm to 3 pm, and the rest of the day will include more freeform Dungeon Poker gaming!
